The saying goes that a picture is worth a thousand words, and we feel that's certainly the case.   With that in mind, we've included a few pictures from last week's event below.  Along with the Open Source 101 by the Numbers blog post we're hoping they provide a good review for those that were unable to attend. Seating for morning keynotes was at capacity with many attendees standing or sitting along walls. The registration area and hallways were consistently busy and heavily trafficked. Five (5) Spark in Action eBooks will be given away at Open Source 101 2019. The eBooks will be given away during Jean Georges Perrin's Big Data Made Easy with Spark session scheduled from 1:30 - 3:15 pm ET on the Cloud / Big Data track.   The session is 1.5 hours to allow for a deeper dive into this important technology. Peter Zaitsev, CEO of the open source database company Percona and noted author will host a book signing at Open Source 101.   Peter will be signing 10 copies of his book High Performance MySQL from O'Reilly Publishers.   The book remains one of the best selling database books on MySQL ever and is widely viewed as well written and technically sound.   The book signing will take place Thursday, April 18 at 1:15 pm ET in the lobby of the Alumni Center, near the registration area.  It will follow Peter's featured lunch talk Making a Career Out of Open Source.  A little about the [...]

For the second year in a row student scholarships to Open Source 101 are being made available by the McNair Institute for Entrepreneurism and Free Enterprise.   Located within the University of South Carolina, the McNair Institute promotes scholarly activity and educates students about the role of free enterprise and entrepreneurship in enhancing economic growth as well as encourages students to contribute and participate through entrepreneurism in creating a better America. The Open Source 101 conference was recently promoted statewide on SCETV's well-known and highly respected South Carolina Business Review.   Sergio Aparicio, the City of Columbia's Economic Business Development Manager, appeared on the show and discussed not only the upcoming conference taking place Thursday, April 18 in downtown Columbia, but the growth and importance of open source software in general.  The segment was well received and well done. Brent Laster, a global trainer, presenter, and the author of the books Professional Git and Jenkins 2: Up and Running: Evolve Your Deployment Pipeline for Next Generation Automation will be doing a book signing at Open Source 101 on Thursday, April 18.  Brent will be signing 20 copies of Jenkins 2: Up and Running: Evolve Your Deployment Pipeline for Next Generation Automation. While the majority of sessions offered at Open Source 101 will be in the traditional 45 minute format there will be two (2) extended sessions featured. Extended sessions will be 1.5 hours in duration and will allow a deeper dive into two topics we feel will be of great interest - Spark and Git/GitHub.
