TALK: Istio: An Open Platform Providing A Uniform Way To Connect, Manage, And Secure Microservices

In today’s world of microservices architecture we need a way to manage the increased complexity that these architectures introduce. Specifically it’s important we have a way to manage microservice interactions in a dynamic environment. Specifically it is necessary to do service discovery, load balancing, failure recovery and consistent way to do metrics and monitoring. We also need advanced features such as A/B testing, rate limiting and access control. Istio is an open source project that helps us with the varied requirements around deploying microservices based applications. In this discussion we will talk about what a Service Mesh is and how Istio can help us solve some of the challenges with working on microservices.
